Shining Girls

Shining Girls is a limited thriller series streaming on AppleTV+ starring Elizabeth Moss, Wagner Moura, and Jamie Bell.

Throughout pre-production and filming, I worked within the Art Department, researching, conceptualizing, pitching, and executing countless visual assets including brand identity, advertising, editorial, poster, packaging, type, apparel, and “gac” (general area coverage) designs.

The greatest challenge, and joy, of working on this production rested in its central premise: time-travel. Because the story called for a visual representation of so many eras, regions, languages, subcultures, technological limitations, and design styles, we in the Art Department were in a constant state of research, experimentation, and high volume production.

The pace and scope of the project, plus wisdom gained from luminaries — including a three-time Emmy-winning Art Director — honed my hard design, branding, and print media skills all while deepening my communication, research, presentation, efficiency, ideation, pitching, organizational, and project management soft skills.

Research, Concepts, Pitching

During pre-production, I researched, pitched, and executed exemplary graphic styles and ad campaigns that coincided with our story’s primary 1992 setting.

After pitching over a dozen conceptual directions to the Production Designer and Art Director, the winner, in terms of screen time, was a recreation of the iconic Fabien Baron art-directed Calvin Klein campaign, which launched in 1992.
